Q. What is Crown Green Bowls?

Crown Green is a game played outside on a grass or all-weather surface which has a 'crown' or small 'hump' at the centre of the green. It is normally played from the Midlands up the north west of England and Wales as far as Northumbria.

Q. How does it differ from flat green?

Crown Green (unlike Flat Green) is played on a green measuring from between 32 and 45 meters and the whole green is used, including playing diagonally or around the edge. The scoring is also different inasmuch as flat green is played to a specified number of ends or to a time limit whereas crown green continues until a score of 21 is reached.

The Green at Bodelwyddan Castle Hotel is artificial and measures 36m x 32m

Q. Do you have your own bowls or do we bring our own?

20 sets of crown green bowls are available at a range of weights, however if bowlers wish to bring their own they may do so.

Q. Do we need bowling shoes?

No, flat shoes or trainers are acceptable, however nothing with a heel is allowed onto the green

Q. Will there be a charge for bowling and /or equipment?

Bowlers can pre-book at a cost of £5.00 per person which guarantees four games during a midweek break and a cost of £3.00 per person which guarantees two games over a weekend break. Casual bowling can also be paid for aon the day at a rate of £1.50 per person per game.

Yes, we have two specialised wheelchairs which are available from the Bowls Hall.

Yes, the maximum numbers for singles is 64 and for a Pairs competition 32 pairs.
