Set sail for an unforgettable day on the River Thames with The Runnymede on Thames’ riverboats – one of our guests' favourite summer activities. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or a first-time adventurer, you can choose between a skippered boat trip or take to the wheel yourself and cruise along the river. Whichever route you choose, the Thames has countless surprises in store.

Our riverboats are currently unavailable due to the season, but if you're planning a visit between early May and late August 2025, you can start planning your boat trip itinerary. To help you make the most of your day, here’s a guide to the breathtaking sights waiting for you.
The Queen at Runnymede Pleasure Grounds

Sail upstream to Windsor – a royal journey awaits

Feel the breeze on your face as you glide upstream towards Windsor, where history and beauty unfold with every passing moment.

25 minutes:
A royal welcome – Greet the grand statue of The Queen at Runnymede Pleasure Grounds, setting the tone for your regal journey.

30 minutes:
Hidden gems in the trees – Spot the Royal Air Force Memorial and the mysterious Ankerwycke Ruins, each holding stories waiting to be uncovered.

35 minutes:
Tea and tranquility – Pause for a quick stop at French Brothers' Boats or enjoy a refreshing break at the Magna Carta Tea Rooms – the perfect place to savour the moment.

50 minutes:
Through the locks – Pass through Old Windsor Lock, where the gentle flow of the river and the serene countryside are sure to leave you mesmerised.

1 hour 10 minutes:
Albert Bridge – Snap a photo of this picturesque spot as you sail beneath its timeless arches.

1 hour 25 minutes:
Windsor Castle in view – The breathtaking Windsor Castle comes into view, rising majestically above the trees, a sight you won’t forget.

1 hour 50 minutes:
Victoria Bridge – Another charming landmark, framing the river as you move closer to the heart of Windsor.

2 hours:
Romney Lock – Drift through this historic lock, where the tranquillity of the Thames meets the rich heritage of the town.

2 hours 20 minutes:
Eton Bridge – Sail past this bridge linking two historic towns, Windsor and Eton, famed for its prestigious college.

2 hours 30 minutes:
Windsor Moorings – Here you can dock and explore Windsor’s treasures up close, or simply enjoy one more stunning view of the Castle’s tower before heading back.

Sail downstream to Shepperton – where adventure begins

If the call of adventure leads you downstream, a scenic journey to Shepperton awaits, filled with peaceful parks, historic locks, and hidden gems.

5 minutes:
Lammas Park – A peaceful green space to kick off your journey, perfect for watching the world go by.

8 minutes:
Staines Bridge & The Swan Pub – Pass under the iconic Staines Bridge and catch a glimpse of the bustling Swan Pub, where locals gather for riverside drinks.

15 minutes:
St Peter’s Church, Staines – Cruise past the elegant St Peter’s Church, a peaceful sight amidst the greenery.

20 minutes:
Trusses Island – A treat for nature lovers – Here, you’ll find a designated swan feeding area, where these graceful creatures glide alongside your boat.

1 hour 30 minutes:
Chertsey Lock – Glide through the calm waters of Chertsey Lock, a peaceful escape surrounded by scenic beauty.

1 hour 50 minutes:
Chertsey Bridge – A historic crossing, this bridge adds character to the serene landscape as you sail beneath its arches.

2 hours 10 minutes:
Pharaoh’s Island – Drift past the intriguing Pharaoh’s Island, a private haven with a fascinating history.

2 hours 30 minutes:
Thames Court Restaurant & Shepperton Lock – End your journey in style by docking near the charming Thames Court Restaurant, the perfect spot to toast your adventure with a refreshing drink.
