You’ll feel like you’re right by the sea but still close to the countryside at Lakeside. The fishing lake is never far from your sights for a leisurely day casting a rod. Local wildlife is close too, with squirrels often coming and bidding hello at the Woodland lodges and nautical-themed chalets. A few lengths of the indoor pool, archery, bike rides and gentle strolls to the nearby beaches keep it lovely and laid-back.
A great place for a relaxing few days away with a friendly village atmosphere and charming chalets set besides the coast on Hampshire’s Hayling Island. The island is a petite little thing (just four miles long by four miles wide) but, as the saying goes, good things often come in small packages. When you’re ready to explore, you’ll find countryside and coast, shoulder to shoulder, with an appealing mix of open spaces for walks and bike rides and beaches for sand-between-your-toes fun. Nor does the adventure stop back at the hotel, with a bowling hall, pool, fishing lake and live music and dancing to keep you both on – and off – your toes.
So much to do
The 32-acre village is as friendly as it gets with lots to do for early birds all the way through to night owls. A lot of the daytime action centres around the six-rink bowling hall and The Village Green where there are picnic tables, plus an outdoor bar and stage for garden parties and barbecues. Come dusk, the party gets started at the Piano Bar and continues after dinner with shows and dancing in the live music restaurant.
Local events in May
The Tulip Festival from Mid-April to early May features more than 60,000 tulips blooming in the castle gardens. Hot on its heels is the Allium Extravaganza. From May to the end of June it’s showtime for a huge collection of alliums when they burst into bright bloom in the Walled Gardens
