Hotels in the Country

With rolling hills, lush valleys and castles galore, the British Countryside is hard to beat. If you're anything like us, you'll prefer to explore it from the comfort of a beautiful hotel only a stone's throw from the best of the British Countryside. Each of our seven country house hotels is perfectly placed to make the most of the views.

Bodelwyddan Castle Hotel, North Wales
This Victorian castle, looking out over its peaceful estate, never feels crowded. With its new stunning glass Atrium inside the castle walls providing a newly extended restaurant plus a bar and lounge. And the scenery is just beautiful, why not choose one of the new Garden Lodge rooms and really enjoy the view? What else would you expect this close to Snowdonia and the coast?

Alvaston Hall Hotel, Cheshire
From this lovely rural spot there's just so much to do - and you simply have to visit Chester. If the swimming, golf or archery don't call to you, find a quiet corner to read in before enjoying the live entertainment in our new Grove Cabaret Restaurant. It has been a whole year since the £12.6 million developments have been completed so why not come and visit!

Thoresby Hall Hotel, Nottinghamshire
The Great Hall, the main building, the Victorian rose garden, even dinner in The Sherwood. All very grand but still very relaxing. Take a leisurely look round Thoresby Courtyard, where you'll find craft shops, the Military Museum and a garden centre conveniently set in the grounds. Try shooting or falconry, take a dip in the pool or treat yourself to a professional pamper session in our outstanding spa.

Nidd Hall Hotel, North Yorkshire
Just look at our trim garden maze and imposing ivy-clad facade. And inside? Stained glass, marble and oak wooden floors. Built for a wool merchant, the hall was renowned for its fun parties; something we maintain with our nightly entertainment. Explore York and Harrogate if you like, but we've walks, fishing, shooting and tennis right on the doorstep.

Littlecote House Hotel, Berkshire
A Roman mosaic, the stained glass window marking Henry VIII meeting Jane Seymour, the rooms where D-Day was planned. There's plenty to try here: from archery and tennis to snooker and our sauna. The outlying area has even more places where you can explore the past, like Stonehenge, Bath and Blenheim Palace.

Cricket St Thomas Hotel, Somerset
Regency elegance, with sweeping staircases. Vast landscaped gardens and history, with croquet on the lawn and boules. You'll feel 'To the Manor Born' (much of the original TV series was filmed here!). But you're here to relax - so will it be tennis or disc golf, unwinding in the pool or exploring the coast and countryside? Followed by afternoon tea, it could hardly be more English.

Holme Lacy House Hotel, Herefordshire
Naturally, it's magnificent: beautiful ceilings, ornate state rooms and spectacular formal gardens, restored to their original design. Herefordshire's countryside offers almost as many ways to relax as the hotel does. Immerse yourself in the glorious gardens, historic courtyards and activity lawns. You might even pick up a few tips from our gardener, if he doesn't catch you scrumping!
