Now a recent survey has ranked the most popular holiday sounds. Crashing waves top the list, along with singing birds and the splash of a pool. Of course, the fizz of a drink being poured over ice is up there too, along with the turning of a book page and the swish of a golf club.

More than half the people surveyed also said that the ding of a lift and the shaking of a cocktail made them instantly think of holidays.
